Cycling

Saturdays

October to February
During winter there is one cycle group and the route is determined by the leader.

March to September
During the summer months there are a number of cycling groups for Club members. Group Riding Rules and Etiquette can be found in the policy section of this website.

Cycle groups are on speed and ability.

Group One - is targeted to more experienced riders and sets an average pace of 17/18mph. The routes for this group are planned between 40 to 50 miles plus. To ride in this group you must have riding experience, be self sufficient and be able to find your own way back if you cannot stay with the pace of the group.
Group Two is targeted towards intermediate cyclists with an average pace of 15/16mph. The group will cover between 30 to 40 miles.
Group Three is targeted towards beginner cyclists and will travel at the pace of the slowest cyclist within the group.

The Saturday morning cycle groups meet at the Wootton Community Centre at 8.45am ready to leave at 9.00am.

Wednesdays

An evening cycle group is held during the summer months, which incorporates a time trial series.

The Wednesday evening group meets at Caroline Chisholm School at 6.00pm.

Cycling Guidelines

The club has a Group Riding Rules and Etiquette policy document which can be found in the ‘Safety & Rules’ section of this website.  All riders should make themselves fully aware of this policy before attending a cycle session.

All riders please ensure you have the following for every ride.

» Road Bikes – not mountain bikes
» Helmet and appropriate clothing – you must wear an approved cycling safety helmet (no helmet no ride!). Please ensure that you dress according to the weather conditions, take multiple layers and have water proof jacket and gloves with you especially during the winter months. If your feet get cold put plastic bags over your socks before putting your shoes on, this helps keep the rain and wind out.
» Snack food – ensure that you have sufficient food to snack, eg. jaffa cakes, peanut butter sandwich, chewy bars, jelly babies etc
» Energy drink and water – bring plenty especially on warmer days.
» Spares – you must have at least one spare inner tube (recommend 2) and a pump with you, Do not rely on others fixing your punctures with their spares.
» Glasses – are recommended to protect your eyes from the elements (and flying objects).
» Shoes – firm soled shoes or cycling specific shoes. Running shoes have too much give in the sole.

Running

Run training is often regarded as something that can be done alone, however, training with others and with a coach can provide significantly better quality sessions. The Triathlon club utilises the Running Club’s run sessions, along with their own track session on a Sunday.

Tuesdays – 6.30pm, one club group

Thursdays – 7.30pm, ability groups

Sundays – 9.00am, long run, three group abilities

Sundays – 10.00am to 12.00pm track

Further information on all Thursday and Sunday sessions can be found on the website. Tuesday sessions and further Sunday run group details are available to members via the Club email and on the Club Facebook Group. New members should also attend a Thursday session the first instance.

The Sunday track sessions are held at Sixfields in Northampton.  These sessions are a shared track and the club only has limited space available each week.  The session is also an additional cost of £1.50 per person, per session.  Every four to six weeks a fully coached track session is offered by one of the club coaches.  These coached sessions are advertised in advance and places must be pre-booked.  If you wish to attend a track session please email – tricoach@woottonroadrunners.co.uk.
