Overview of the Sunday run

One of the most important training sessions in any runners’ diary has to be the long run. Wootton Road Runners have just the run for everyone.

Every Sunday morning we meet for a friendly, social get together and we throw in a multi-terrain run for good measure. The routes are varied across Northampton and very enjoyable, taking in bridleways, road, country fields and everything else in between.

On the Sunday run the emphasis is on running as a group, the pace is always controlled with faster runners regularly re-turning to the pack and there are plenty of stops to re-group and keep everyone together. All you need to be confident of is your ability to run for a minimum of 90 minutes at a controlled pace, we seldom cover more than 10 miles, averaging about 9 minutes per mile. We meet at 8:45am for a prompt start at 9:00am. The start location details are posted on this page weekly and as a member, you will receive the information via our regular email bulletins.

The benefits:
  • Many members who are marathon training and are at the "big mileage" stage, attend the Sunday run and added on miles before or after to suit their training programmes.
  • It is an ideal way to overcome the loneliness and drudgery of those long training runs. No-one is allowed to fall behind or to feel they are holding up proceedings; that's simply not what our Sunday runs are about.
  • Sunday runs are a group of like minded people enjoying a long, gentle run together as a group. No pressure, just good company.
  • Whatever the weather may throw at us, we always end with a cup of tea, a slice of cake (or two) and a social chat for 10 minutes or so before heading off home. Perfect way to start off a Sunday …!
We hope these details might encourage you to try a Sunday run, you'll be so glad you did and we'll be very pleased to see you - go on, give it a go!
If you need any further information or would just like to chat a few things over, please phone Terry Peters on 07706 990841 or email: 1terrypeters@gmail.com
