Fell Running

Fell Running
A small but growing minority of WRR members have developed a more liberal interpretation of "road" running and take part in some of the excellent fell and off-road events through-out the year. The following link gives a flavour of some of the excellent races available. Some races do require a small amount of additional kit, may require navigation skills but all are great fun. Please ask me or any of the other hill runners (you know who you are!) if you have any questions.

Tigger Tor (10 miles/2,200ft ascent/BM)
 - (good introduction to fell running)
http://www.totleyac.org.uk/2012Series/tiggertor.htm. If we are lucky there might be some snow on the top of the hills. Enter on the day. A nice day trip to the Derbyshire Dales. As with most fell runs, full survival kit (see event website) will be required; no kit, no run.

Charnwood Hills (12 miles/1,200ft ascent /CL) - (excellent cross country run) . http://www.bowlineclimbingclub.co.uk/index.php/hills-race. This fell run is only in Leicestershire, so is practically our local fell run. Don't forget to enter soon as entries fill up quick.

Edale skyline (21 miles/4,500ft ascent/AL) - (not for wimps)http://www.dpfr.org.uk/#pages/show/skyline. One of the most challenging (the word “challenging” can be replaced with “interesting”) fell runs in the calendar. Should be tackled like you would a difficult marathon. Previous experience required. Entries open January, fills up within days.

LAMM (various courses/two day event) - (for when one day's running just isn't enough)http://www.lamm.co.uk/  . The Lowe Alpine Mountain Marathon is a two day mountain orienteering event that takes place each year in the Scottish Highlands; exact location will be announced a few days before the event but is likely to be in southern Scotland this year. A few from our club have already entered.
