Training The Club runs a programme of regular weekly training sessions in all three triathlon disciplines. Below is an outline of the weekly programme. Additional sessions are set up on an adhoc basis by members of the Club and these are advertised through the Club email and Forum. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Swimming Pool session The Club has a swim fit pool based training on Friday evenings from 6.45pm – 7.45pm at the Cripps Centre in Northampton. This is a formal organised training session and places must be booked to attend. Cost is £3.00 per session, booked on a 10 week programme (£30.00). The link below details a suggested four week programme to be used in conjunction with the coached swimming session. Each of the suggested swim sets are broken into ‘Main Set A’ for longer distance training and ‘Main Set B’ for shorter distance. Open water sessions The Club uses the facilities at Box End Park during the months of May to September. For more information on Box End Park visit www.boxendpark.com. This is not a formal organised session for Wootton Tri and is open to the public. A session costs £4.00 and is payable at reception upon arrival. Swimming times are published on the Box End Park website. Changing facilities and wetsuit hire is available at the Park. The Club does offer a ‘buddy’ system for those new to open water swimming. Dates and times for new beginner days are published in the Club email and on the Forum. __________________________________________________________________________________________________ Cycling April to September. During the summer months there are a number of cycling groups. Saturdays 9.00am This group is targeted to more experienced riders and sets an average pace of 16/17mph. The routes for this group are planned for 50 miles plus. To ride in this group you must have riding experience, be self sufficient and be able to find your own way back if you cannot stay with the pace of the group. Saturdays 2.00pm This group is targeted towards beginner cyclists up to an average pace of 15mph. The group will cover between 25 to 40 miles dependent upon the group participants and the session planned. This group will also has specific hill sessions, speed sessions and brick session included in the schedule and details of these are published in the Club email and the Forum. Wednesdays 6.00pm There is a short cycle and the route/session for this group is planned on the evening dependent upon those that attend. This session is open to all abilities. Additionally time trials are held once a month during this session and details of when these are being held are published in the Club email and on the Forum. All cycling groups meet at the Wootton Community Centre. October to March During the winter months there is only one outdoor cycling group, which meets on a Saturday morning at 9.00am at the Wootton Community Centre. Details of the route for these sessions are published in the Club email and Forum. All riders please ensure you have the following for every rideGroup Riding Rules and Etiquette - click hereRoad Bikes – not mountain bikes Helmet and appropriate clothing – you must wear an approved cycling safety helmet (no helmet no ride!). Please ensure that you dress according to the weather conditions, take multiple layers and have water proof jacket and gloves with you especially during the winter months. If your feet get cold put plastic bags over your socks before putting your shoes on, this helps keep the rain and wind out. Snack food – ensure that you have sufficient food to snack, eg. jaffa cakes, peanut butter sandwich, chewy bars, jelly babies etc Energy drink and water – bring plenty especially on warmer days. Spares – you must have at least one spare inner tube (recommend 2) and a pump with you, Do not rely on others fixing your punctures with their spares. Session leaders carry other tools and can help you if you get into trouble. Glasses – are recommended to protect your eyes from the elements (and flying objects). Shoes – firm soled shoes or cycling specific shoes. Running shoes have too much give in the sole. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ RunningRunning training is often regarded as something that can be done alone, however, training with others and with a coach can provide significantly better quality sessions. The Triathlon Club utilises the Running Club’s sessions. Thursdays – 7.30pm, Club groups Sundays – 9.00am, long run The Thursday session meet at the Wootton Community Centre, while the Sunday run is held at various locations around Northamptonshire. The meeting place and run length for the Sunday group is published in the Club email, Forum and the ‘Sunday Run’ section of this website.
